A man has appeared in court charged with murder after an Iraqi national was found dead at a Birmingham hostel.

Rahman Saidi, 48, from Winson Green, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

Bakhitar Ahmad Kheder Mirawdali, 40, was found at the hostel in Soho Road, Handsworth, on 2 February.

Police said tests showed Mr Mirawdali had died as a result of a wound to his neck and believe his body lay undiscovered for two days.

West Midlands Police arrested Mr Saidi in the Winson Green area on Wednesday.

Mr Mirawdali had been granted political asylum and had lived in the UK for a number of years, but was planning to return to Iraq to get married.
