Artist Willard Wigan said he was used to working on sculptures smaller than the Queen's portrait

A Birmingham artist has created a miniature portrait of the Queen on a coffee bean.

Willard Wigan specialises in micro sculptures and his latest work marks the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Mr Wigan said: "It was a bit of a challenge because a coffee bean crumbles and is hollow in the middle."

Before the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton Mr Wigan produced a sculpture of the couple that fitted in the eye of a needle.

He said the coffee bean sculpture, which was commissioned by coffee company Douwe Egberts, was "a lot bigger" than his usual work.

Mr Wigan was made an MBE for services to the arts in 2007.
