Birmingham Pride: Sunshine and rainbows

A parade with floats started this year's Birmingham Pride, which is expected to attract about 50,000 people to the city centre.

Organisers say this year's two-day festival is the biggest so far.

Equal rights campaigner Peter Tatchell gave a speech to the gathered crowds before the parade began in Victoria Square. The theme of this year's festival is "Equal Love".

The first Birmingham Pride took place 17 years ago and has grown every year.

Kitten was among those taking part in the parade. She said she had been going to Pride every year but this year was "fantastic".

Live acts performing at the festival include Paloma Faith, Bananarama and JLS.

West Midlands Police were among the community groups and organisations to have a stall at the festival site in the city centre.
