Acorns Children's Hospice gets £200K refurbishment

A £200,000 refurbishment of a Birmingham hospice has been completed through community fundraising.

Acorns Children's Hospice in Selly Oak used the money to improve all 10 children's rooms, as well as floors, ceilings and security in the building.

The refurbishment is part of a £4.2m care plan to improve services and facilities as well as create jobs over the next five years.

The hospice has been celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Funds were raised by the Warwickshire Mark Masons and a 26-mile walk around Birmingham last year in memory of 11-year-old Harry Moseley, who died of a brain tumour after raising thousands of pounds for charity.

The hospice in Selly Oak is used by 250 life-limited and life-threatened children.

It was opened in 1988 and has helped more than 1,100 children.
