West Midlands Police jobs attract 10,000 applicants

More than 10,000 people have an expressed an interest in becoming a West Midlands Police officer.

The force confirmed the interest on its official Twitter page.

Bosses began searching for 450 new officers last week, ending a five-year recruitment freeze. Successful applicants for the new posts will have a starting salary of £21,999.

The drive comes after the axing of the A19 scheme, under which officers with 30 years' experience had to retire.
