West Midlands Police reactivates Twitter account of @MentalHealthCop

A police officer whose award-winning Twitter account was suspended has had the account reactivated.

West Midlands Police said Insp Michael Brown's @MentalHealthCop account was suspended on Friday following allegations of inappropriate use of direct messaging and social media.

Mr Brown has since accepted informal advice following an internal investigation, the force said.

The officer accepted there had been some inappropriate use, they added.

'Pleased issue resolved'

Mr Brown, from the Sandwell Police team, won the West Midlands Police chief constable's award for his contribution as a mental health liaison officer in March 2012.

Police and Crime Commissioner Bob Jones questioned the suspension of the account on Saturday and said he planned to raise it with the chief constable.

Assistant Chief Cosntable Garry Forsyth said he wanted to now "move on".

He said: "As with any organisation which communicates with the public, we have to ensure that there are parameters around the way information is shared, particularly when that information can be sensitive.

"I am pleased that this issue has been resolved in a speedy manner to the satisfaction of those directly involved. It would not be fair or proportionate to release any further detail of this investigation."
