Thousands of people lined the streets of Digbeth as the annual Irish parade went through the city - here are a selection of photographs from the day.

Birmingham City Council said it expected more than 80,000 people to attend the parade, which ran along Camp Hill and Digbeth High Street.

The parade featured hundreds of floats and vintage vehicles.

Thousands of people travelled to see the parade including Louise Atkins (pictured) who had got the train from Coventry to be there with her friends.

There were blue skies and the sun was shining as thousands lined the streets.

Birmingham was awash with green, white and orange as people got into the Irish spirit - not only adults but children too, who sported painted faces, wigs, hats and fancy dress.

Chris Jones and Kim Youngman from Solihull came to the parade for the first time this year.

The crowd applauded as the confetti cannon was released.

The Birmingham St Patrick's Day celebrations are believed to be the third largest in the world, after New York and Dublin.
