Child hurt in fall from Tipton council home window

A child has been taken to hospital after reportedly falling from a first floor window of a council home in Tipton, Sandwell Council has said.

Police said a one-year-old girl was hurt and the BBC understands she suffered a serious head injury.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to Highfields Road at 10:30 BST.

The air ambulance attended but the injured child was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital by road.

The council's deputy leader, Mahboob Hussain, said: "We are aware of an incident involving a child reportedly falling from a first floor window at a council home this morning.

"Until we have more details, we cannot comment further, other than to say our thoughts are with the child and their family."

West Midlands Police said it was called to Highfields Road at around 10:55 BST to "a report of an injured child", and that inquiries were at "a very early stage".
