An investigation is to take place into the police response in the case of a missing man later found dead in a shed.
It comes after the body of Zafran Nawaz, 34, from Yardley, Birmingham, was found in Bordesley Green on 22 May.
A family member contacted West Midlands Police on 20 May expressing concerns and reported him missing on 21 May, the Independent Police Complaint's Commission (IPCC) said.
Akbar Khan, 20, of Bordesley Green is charged with Mr Nawaz's murder.
"The IPCC is looking at the actions and decisions West Midlands Police took in the days leading up to Mr Nawaz's body being found and what steps were taken to attempt to locate him," an IPCC spokesman said.
"IPCC investigators have met with Mr Nawaz's family to explain how the investigation will progress."
The independent investigation follows a referral from the West Midlands force.
Three men aged 28, 23 and 24, three women aged 19, 25 and 50 and a 15-year-old boy remain on police bail in connection with Mr Nawaz's death.
