A murder investigation has been opened after a man died in what police say was a targeted attack in Birmingham.

The 19-year-old was in cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived at the scene in Forde Way Gardens, Hawkesley at about 23:30 BST on Thursday.

Emergency crews were called after gunshots were heard, police said. He was declared dead at the scene.

Officers are investigating the motive but believe he was deliberately targeted.

His cause of death is not yet known.

Ch Insp Caroline Marsh, from West Midlands Police, said: "We still continue to investigate the motive behind the attack but believe at this stage that it may have been targeted.

"We have officers searching the area and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed what happened to call me or one of the team.

"The family of the man have been informed of his death and specialist officers continue to liaise with them at this sad time."
