Three people have been arrested after trouble in Regent Road, police said

Three men have been shot during an incident in Birmingham.

They were injured when trouble flared between several people in Regent Road, Handsworth, at 16:30 GMT on Sunday.

One man was taken to hospital in a critical condition, police said, and the two others, aged 28 and 30, were discharged after treatment for injuries to their feet.

They have since been arrested for public order offences, along with a 31-year-old man, police said.

The most seriously injured man remains in hospital for treatment to his lower back.

Regent Road remains closed on Monday

Police, who initially said two people had been shot, cordoned off Regent Road for forensic investigation and it remains closed on Monday.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the force.

Det Sgt Adam Hicklin, said: "We are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward and contact us as soon as possible.

"In particular we know there were cars in the area at the time so we would like to hear from any drivers or passengers who may have seen what happened to help us understand the motives behind the incident."
