Thirteen people called 999 to report the fire in Smethwick

A fire has engulfed a derelict former school building in the West Midlands.

Twenty firefighters attended the Sandwell College site in Crocketts Lane, Smethwick, just before 20:00 BST on Saturday.

The roof and first floor suffered "severe damage", West Midlands Fire Service said.

A spokeswoman said she did not know what caused the blaze. No-one was injured and police have not been informed.
