A man who was found seriously injured in a street has died in hospital.

Paramedics found the 21-year-old with serious head and torso injuries in Barsby Close, Atherstone, on Sunday evening.

He died in hospital at about 10:00 BST on Monday and a murder investigation has been launched by Warwickshire Police.

Two men, who were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Sunday, remain in custody.

The victim was reported to have smashed a window in Barsby Close at about 17:00.

He was then involved in an "altercation" with a man he had been drinking with outside the White Horse pub on Long Street at about 20:35.

Det Ch Insp Steve Tonks said police believe the victim "was involved in several incidents" over the course of Sunday evening.

"The final incident occurred on Barsby Close and led to him falling unconscious in the street and being taken to hospital where he passed away," he added.

Two men, aged 20 and 50 and both from Atherstone, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Sunday.

The man's next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination is due to take place.
