Boy, 16, killed in Coventry stabbing

A 16-year old boy has died after being stabbed in Coventry.

The victim, named by police as Jaydon Washington James, was found in Deedmore Road, Wood End, at about 23:40 GMT on Saturday. He died in hospital later.

Police said Jaydon was attacked while with friends, who were also seriously injured and are in hospital.

A murder investigation has been launched and West Midlands Police said officers were "following a number of active lines of inquiry".

Jaydon's family said they were "deeply saddened" by what had happened and called for anyone with information to come forward.

Deedmore Road was cordoned off near the Moat House and Castle Wood School

Forensic officers have been checking drains as well as around bins and vehicles on Deedmore Road.

Searches have also been carried out in the grounds of the nearby St Patrick's Catholic Church.

Bunches of flowers have been left against a wall of the church in tribute to Jaydon, also known as JJ.

Det Supt Matt Markham described the death as a "terrible loss" and said officers were "working round the clock to find who was responsible".

Det Ch Insp Edward Foster, from the force's homicide unit, added: "Jaydon had only just turned 16 with his whole life ahead of him.

"Words cannot describe the anguish that his family are going through, and we will leave no stone unturned in the hunt for his killer."

A family friend told the BBC the community had been "completely shocked" and described Jaydon as a quiet boy who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Another local resident, Rebecca Rushton-Nesbitt, said: "He was just an ordinary young boy. He wouldn't do anything to hurt anybody."

The road by Moat House Leisure Centre was blocked off by police, with a cordon about 200 yards (180m) further down the road at the entrance to the Moat House and Castle Wood School.
