Former JLS star Oritse Williams has denied behaving like a "sexual predator" after being accused of rape.

Giving evidence at his trial, the 32-year-old claimed the complainant thanked him when they parted company.

Prosecutors allege Mr Williams, from Croydon, "jumped on the woman" when she went to his hotel room to look for her phone in December 2016. He denies rape.

He told Wolverhampton Crown Court the woman began kissing him after saying she wanted to spend the night with him.

Mr Williams told the jury he met the woman, and two friends, at a meet-and-greet event.

'Highly sexually charged'

He said he got along "very, very well" with the alleged victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, after she and her friends initiated "quite raunchy" behaviour.

Defence QC Mark Cotter asked Mr Williams whether he had a clear independent memory of the women, who were captured on CCTV while "bouncing" on his lap.

The singer answered: "You don't forget three girls 'grinding' you all at the same time.

"The girls started putting on a highly sexually charged display.

"It looked like it was designed to attract attention and it certainly caught my attention."

Mr Williams said there was "no way" he was being a sexual predator in the club and the women had "initiated" what happened at the venue.

The court heard Mr Williams and two of the women went back to his hotel room, where they went into a bathroom and then left.

He said the complainant then returned to his room.

"She said she didn't want to leave and she wanted to spend the night with me," he said.

He claimed a consensual sexual encounter took place before he fell asleep, waking to a knock from the woman who had returned to the room with a staff member looking for a mobile phone.

After it was found, Mr Williams said he offered to help her continue looking for a second item.

"She said, 'Don't worry, thank you so much for finding the phone'," Mr Williams said.

"Everything was good and she left."

Co-defendant Jamien Nagadhana, 32, from Hounslow, west London, denies sexual assault and assault by penetration.

The trial continues.
