A man has died after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run crash, police say.

The 57-year-old pedestrian was hit crossing Bescot Crescent in Walsall just before 19:00 GMT on Tuesday.

He suffered a serious head injury and died in hospital shortly after.

West Midlands Police said it believed the car involved was small and silver or grey in colour and overtook other vehicles as it was driven off in the direction of Broadway West.

The force appealed for witnesses and sightings of a vehicle matching the description along with front-end crash damage.

It added the man's family had been informed and was being supported by specialist officers.
