A curious cat is "risking its nine lives" by prowling around the gibbon enclosure at Dudley Zoo.

The fearless feline is not believed to be a stray as it's wearing a collar but keepers have been unable to catch it and scan its microchip.

The tourist attraction is urging anyone who recognises the intrepid explorer to get in contact.

The Castle Hill zoo is home to a variety of animals including tigers, lions, snow leopards and monkeys.

Visitors responding to its Facebook post, external about the black cat said it was "risking its nine lives", while another said the gibbons had been "very unhappy" about their unwanted visitor.

"We saw him or her last week by the spider monkey enclosure, [it] made us jump," wrote another on Facebook.

Others joked that the cat thought he was a black panther and had simply "lost his cat-nav".

"If you don't catch it, those nine lives are going to run out quick," another quipped.

The zoo said the cat had been spotted in several animal closures and urged the owner to call its office.
