A man was critically injured when he was struck by a car in a suspected hit-and-run crash.

The man, aged in his 50s, was found with life-threatening head injuries in Boulton Middleway in Birmingham, just after 05:30 BST, police said.

The car may have been travelling towards the Jewellery Quarter and the crash is believed to have happened before Key Hill Circus, West Midlands Police said.

The force has appealed for witnesses.

Det Sgt Paul Hughes said: "I would appeal direct to the driver of the vehicle involved.

"I need you to come forward and tell me what happened last night. The man is in a critical condition and his loved ones deserve answers. Now is the time to do the right thing."
