A new centre bringing together health and other services in Bilston has been granted planning permission.

The Bilston Health and Wellbeing Facility will be built next to the Bert Williams Leisure Centre and Bilston Urban Village medical centre.

It will be mostly funded from a £20m government levelling-up grant, awarded in March.

The facility will provide health, social care and tourism facilities.

The leader of Wolverhampton Council, Stephen Simkins, said securing outline planning permission was an "important milestone".

He described public feedback on the plans, which were shown off in a fly-through video by Maber Architects, external, as hugely positive. "Their input has been invaluable in developing plans for what will be an important community asset," he said.

The local authority believes the centre will be "highly accessible", linking to the town's public transport hub, and said it built on investment already made in Bilston in recent years.

Health bosses said the facility would offer early treatment and prevention, transforming GP and community services and bringing care closer to residents.
