Plans to redevelop a former school site that has been plagued by fly-tippers have been approved.

Walsall Council has given the go ahead for 35 homes on the former Kings Hill JMI School site on Joynson Street.

The school closed and was then demolished after it was subject to a suspected arson attack in 1992.

The site has since attracted anti-social behaviour and one member of the authority's planning committee said the scheme was "long overdue."

The redevelopment was backed by councillors almost a year ago, but it was delayed to enable officers to approve conditions and address some outstanding issues.

They have now been agreed and developer Sarwan Samrai, will be allowed to build 29 flats and four houses, as well as converting an existing property into two apartments.

A total of 48 parking spaces will also be created.

Darlaston South ward member Paul Bott, said: "This site has been fly-tipped for years and years and years and has been a blight on King's Hill for many years.

"I thank the [developers] for taking the initiative to build on this site."
