Two police officers and several people were hurt as fireworks were launched at people and buildings in Birmingham city centre, police said.
Nine people were arrested after the fireworks were set off by groups in Bagot Street and Staniforth Street.
The officers and other people hurt in the disorder on Tuesday were not seriously injured, the force said.
Stop and search powers were used by the force along with a dispersal order to deter anti-social behaviour.
