A 16-year-old boy has suffered critical injuries in a shooting in Birmingham.

Emergency services were called to an address on Lighthorne Avenue in the Ladywood area of the city at about 12:30 GMT on Sunday after reports the teenager had suffered gunshot wounds.

He was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition, said West Midlands Ambulance Service.

He remained there in a serious condition, police said.

Officers have been carrying out inquiries in the area as they work "to establish exactly what happened and who was involved", said the West Midlands force.

"We've got officers on patrol in and around the area to offer reassurance and be a point of contact for anybody with concerns," a spokesperson explained.
