A murder hunt has been launched after a 19-year-old man was stabbed.
Police were called to Laburnum Road in Wolverhampton shortly before 20:30 GMT on Monday, but the man died at the scene.
The area has been taped off so forensic investigations can be carried out and police said inquiries were continuing.
The family of the man who died had been informed and police officers were supporting them.
West Midlands Police asked for anyone who was in the area between 20:00 and 21:00 GMT to get in touch if they had seen anything.
"Any piece of information, however small, could be vital to our investigation," they said.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "Crews arrived to discover a man who had suffered serious injuries in the incident and was in a critical condition.
"They immediately began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite their best efforts, it became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene."
Witnesses described seeing two young people being tended to by paramedics, with about seven police cars sent to the scene.
Resident Hardeep Kaur said the incident had made her fear for her children's safety.
Mrs Kaur said: "I didn't hear anything but saw an ambulance and loads of police rushing down the street. I'm worried about my kids now, it's not safe.
"We've never had anything like this before it's the first time we've had a stabbing nearby, I don't feel safe.
"I'm really worried, 19 years old is no age. It's made me more protective over my kids and the neighbourhood."
Another resident, Pete Turley, said the area had become a hotspot for young people "hanging out", and he had become scared about going out.
"On the park bench you get gangs hanging around. We have a problem with young people hanging out here, especially Stowheath Lane, that's the hotspot," he said.
Pat McFadden, MP for Wolverhampton South East, said that the stabbing was devastating and that his thoughts were with the victim's family and friends.
Anyone with information is asked to contact West Midlands Police.
