Gaza protest held at Birmingham New Street Station

The protest was on the station concourse around 1630 BST

About 200 people have staged a sit-in protest inside Birmingham New Street Station.

They were calling for a ceasefire in the war between Israel and Hamas, which started on 7 October when Hamas gunmen attacked Israel, killing about 1,200 people and taking more than 200 hostages.

Israel responded with strikes on Gaza, killing thousands.

The rally follows several pro-Palestinian protests in Birmingham.

British Transport Police said it was aware of a planned protest at Birmingham New Street at 16:30 BST, and officers were present to ensure the safety of all using the station.

There were about 200 protesters involved, but the station was operating as normal, it added.

The station's operations were not affected by the protest, police said
