Birmingham City FC has said it is "deeply disappointed" by misogynistic chanting aimed at a female referee, over which two fans have been arrested.

The Blues supporters, both 17, were detained after remarks heard by police during Saturday's home clash with Sheffield Wednesday, the club said.

They were arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and later release on conditional bail, police reported.

The club said it "strongly condemned all forms of discrimination".

It had issued a statement before the game encouraging supporters to be respectful towards the match officials, a spokesperson added.
