Parts of the building collapsed, the fire service said

About 60 firefighters were called to tackle a huge blaze at an industrial unit that caused parts of the building to collapse.

Crews were called at about 04:00 GMT, to the Pensnett Trading Estate on First Avenue, Kingswinford, West Midlands Fire Service said.

The roof of the building was suspected to contain asbestos, the service added.

Nearby residents were initially urged to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution.

Nobody was believed to be injured and the blaze was brought under control by about 09:00, the fire service said.

A paramedic officer was sent but, after a thorough search found no-one who needed treatment, they were stood down, the ambulance service said.

Within an hour of crews' first arrival, the entire two-storey building was on fire and the first floor and part of the front collapsed.

The number of fire engines at the scene was reduced from 10 to three by 11:55 GMT and only small pockets of fire remained, firefighters said.

Residents were told they could reopen their windows and doors

Business on the Pensnett Trading Estate told their customers they would be closed on Thursday due to the blaze

The business, unit 20 on the industrial estate, produced plastics, the service said.

Several firms based there posted on their Facebook pages that they would be shut until further notice because of the blaze.

The site has since been reopened, allowing access for most of the other firms on the estate, the fire service said.
