Reiss Larvin pleaded guilty to the attack at the couple's home in Birmingham

A man has been jailed for eight years for repeatedly stabbing his partner in the head in an attack in Birmingham.

Reiss Larvin left his victim with a fractured skull and spine after he stabbed, kicked and punched her at their home on 7 August, police said.

Officers discovered blood and clumps of hair at the address as well as a knife covered in blood.

The 32-year-old pleaded guilty at Birmingham Crown Court to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

West Midlands Police said following the attack the woman managed to escape and hide in some bushes until police arrived at the scene after witnesses called 999.

Officers said the woman was taken to hospital where she remained for weeks, recovering.

A week later, Larvin was detained at an address in Bedford.

Det Ch Insp Dave Keen said: "We welcome the conviction of Larvin and commend the bravery and strength of the young woman.

"Larvin is an extremely violent man and fled the region in an attempt to avoid justice."

At the sentencing on Friday, he was also handed an extended four-year licence.
