The plan involves the creation of two blocks of flats

Two apartment blocks, one 34-storeys high, could be built on the site of a former self-storage building.

Latimer Developments Ltd has applied for planning permission to demolish the former Safestore building on Clyde Street, in the Digbeth area of Birmingham.

It said the new tower blocks would create up to 481 homes.

The second block would be 10-storeys high and the two would be connected via a single-storey link building.

The flats would be a mix of one, two and three-bed properties, and the ground floor would have space for shops, the application said.

There are no plans to create parking for residents.

People have until 6 December to comment on the application on the Birmingham City Council website planning portal.
