Man arrested in Smethwick after police officer assaulted

A man has been arrested after a police officer was assaulted in Smethwick in the West Midlands.
Police officers were called to reports of a disturbance near Smethwick Rolfe Street railway station, at about 05:00 GMT on Tuesday.
A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife and assaulting a police officer.
Enquiries into the incident were ongoing, a spokesperson for the force added.
