A family from Rubery has won a prize at a local talent contest after four of their children performed a set of Christmas songs together.

They won the under-12 category of Rubery's Got Talent, which took place at the weekend at Rubery Memorial Club.

The four children who performed - Taurel, Nile, Kenzi, and Rocsi - are aged between five and 11.

They won a performance slot at next year's Rubery Festival.

The family entered the contest a few years ago but they were not successful on their first attempt, mum Simone told BBC Radio WM.

She said that having to practise and persevere had shown her children that "hard work pays off".

The children performed songs such as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Drummer Boy. During the set, they sang and took turns playing the keyboard.

"Whether you win or lose, you can overcome that fear of performing in front of people," Simone told BBC Radio WM. "So it's more the values that you take from performing, as opposed to just thinking about the winning."

Proud parents Simone and Mark later posted the performance, external on their family's YouTube channel.

The couple have seven children in all. Most of them are home-schooled, including music lessons.

The children said they were looking forward to the Rubery Festival - and to making it to Britain's Got Talent one day.
