A man has pleaded guilty to firearms charges after shots were fired on a Birmingham city centre road as members of the public were leaving bars.

Deraj Meade, 22, was arrested after an incident in John Bright Street as people were leaving premises near New Street station at 03:15 BST on 17 June.

He admitted possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Meade, from Birmingham, will be sentenced at the city's crown court on 23 February.

The gunman, from Sheldon Heath Road, had changed his plea at the opening day of his trial earlier this month.

Det Sgt Lucy Mooney, from West Midlands Police, said a large number "of innocent people were put at risk" when the shots were fired.
