Birmingham crash leaves woman dead as man arrested

A man has been arrested after a woman died following a collision in Birmingham near Villa Park.
The victim was hit by a car on Witton Lane in Aston, near the junction of Aston Hall Road, just before 09:00 GMT on Thursday.
The woman, who was in her 40s, was taken to hospital but later died.
A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but has since been bailed while police inquiries continue.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this devastating time and we'll be offering all the support we can.
"We remain keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and saw the silver Chrysler 300C just prior to the collision."
The force said they were particularly interested in speaking to anybody who had dashcam footage.
