An injured dog has been found tied to a children's slide in a play park.

The RSPCA said the dog, called Holly, was found on Thursday at about 22:00 GMT in West Heath Park, Birmingham.

The charity said they were notified of Holly, who was found with a bad leg injury with bone exposed, by passers-by after they heard her whimpering.

The RSPCA said her injuries have gone septic and she may need her leg amputating.

"Unfortunately, she was in a terrible state. She's now getting the care she desperately needs at the vets," said Lydia Andrews from the charity.

Ms Andrews added that the brown and white dog has another injury to her other leg too.

"I'm appealing for anyone who recognises her or may know where she's come from to get in touch," she added.

The RSPCA said reports of animal abandonment incidents have soared to a three-year high.

Dermot Murphy, RSPCA inspectorate commissioner, said: "The combined effects of the pandemic and the ongoing cost of living crisis has created a perfect storm - and means we expect more animals than ever will need our help this year."
