A woman believed to be in her 80s has died after being hit by a delivery van in Birmingham, police have said.

The female pedestrian was fatally injured in a collision on Lordswood Road in Harborne at 11:40 GMT on Monday.

Ambulance crews administered specialist trauma care, but she was confirmed dead at the scene.

Police said the delivery driver stopped at the scene and was helping them with their inquiries.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "On arrival, crews discovered one patient, a woman, who was the pedestrian.

"She was found to have suffered serious injuries in the collision and ambulance crews immediately began administering specialist trauma care.

"However, despite their best efforts it sadly became apparent nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed dead at the scene."

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said crews used "salvage sheets to offer privacy" and make the scene safe.

"Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident," they said.
