A man bragged to friends about killing footballer Cody Fisher minutes after the murder, a court heard.

Mr Fisher, 23, and a friend, who was beaten seconds after the player was stabbed, were targeted for being "a bit cheeky", Birmingham Crown Court heard.

The ex-Stratford Town player was knifed in the heart and died on the dancefloor at Crane in Digbeth.

Just 45 minutes later, CCTV showed Remy Gordon "mocking and smiling" about the killing, the jury heard.

Fellow murder-accused Kami Carpenter also told a friend he stabbed a man in the chest - at the Boxing Day 2022 club night - and left the weapon behind, jurors were told.

The prosecution also outlined how Snapchat messages among the accused and their associates, less than an hour after the stabbing, showed them discussing whether Mr Fisher had died, with one saying, "Ah, good he's deffo dead".

Mr Gordon, 23, of Cofton Park Drive, Birmingham, Mr Carpenter, 22, and 19-year-old Reegan Anderson, both of no fixed address, all deny murder and affray.

Despite receiving medical attention on the dancefloor, Mr Fisher died after a blade penetrated the main valve to his heart, a post-mortem examination showed.

Mr Fisher, of Redditch, had played for a number of non-league Midlands clubs, most recently for the Stratford club, which is in the Southern League Premier Division Central.

'Banged them out'

Prosecutor Michael Duck KC said that after the defendants left the club, they headed for a fast food outlet - where CCTV footage outside featured Mr Gordon.

On the way, Mr Gordon admitted "he had banged them out", in reference to Mr Fisher and his friend.

Mr Gordon who is accused of also kicking Mr Fisher as he lay "stricken" on the dancefloor, was seen on cameras smiling as he made a kicking motion "and repeating what had taken place about 45 minutes before", Mr Duck said.

Mr Carpenter left the club in his Audi with a friend and during the journey to drop him home, admitted to him he had stabbed an individual in the chest and left the weapon at the scene, the jury heard.

He was seen on CCTV arriving in different clothes at the same fast food outlet where he subsequently bought a pizza an hour after the killing, Mr Duck said.

The court heard the group Snapchat also contained messages from associates of the accused saying the club had been taped off and "man says he's dead" with another replying "he is".

However, Mr Gordon responded with, "Someone stabbed him, dumb decision".

Mr Duck said: "A feature of Mr Gordon's discussions is that he sought to try and contend to others that he was unaware of very large and significant parts of what happened at the scene.

"That was a recognition by a man who knew how much trouble he was in."

The trial continues.
