Boy charged with murder after Birmingham stabbing

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with murder after a teenager was stabbed in Birmingham city centre.

Muhammad Hassam Ali, 17, died after he was stabbed in Victoria Square just before 15:30 GMT on Saturday.

Det Insp Michelle Thurgood, from West Midlands Police, said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Muhammad."

A second boy, also aged 15, has been released on police bail with strict conditions.

The boy charged with murder, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

West Midlands Police said anyone with information who was in the area on Saturday should get in touch.

The force added that the investigation was ongoing.
