A man charged with murder and fraud over the death of a former councillor has appeared at crown court.
Wallis Webb, 65, was found dead at a property in Baldmoor Lake Road in Erdington, Birmingham, last week.
West Midlands Police said Mr Webb's bank card had been used after his death.
Sakander Hussain, 25, from Birmingham, was not asked to enter any pleas at the city's crown court. The judge said the next hearing would be on 22 April.
Judge Simon Drew KC told Mr Hussain, from Ingleton Road, who appeared via video link from HMP Hewell, he would need to appear at a plea and trial preparation hearing.
A 51-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of fraud, has been bailed with conditions while the investigation continues.
