People travelling on the M6 experienced congestion on Friday morning

Part of the M6 motorway running through the Black Country was shut due to a "substantial" fuel spillage.

Two northbound lanes were closed at junction eight for the M5 after a diesel tank blocked the carriageway at about 03:45 GMT on Friday.

National Highways said the incident had impacted peak-traffic hours partly due to work to clear the spillage.

The incident had concluded by about 12:00 GMT.
