Police force backs Yorkshire agency tourism drive

West Yorkshire Police have joined forces with the county's official tourism body to encourage people to visit the region.

The move, which it is hoped will boost the area's economy, is in partnership with Welcome to Yorkshire.

Stickers will be displayed on patrol vehicles and officers will provide information to members of the public on areas of interest.

Ilkley, Bingley and Haworth are among the places involved in the campaign.

Ch Insp Steve Thomas of Airedale and North Bradford police said: "Police officers are often a first point of call for new visitors to our area when seeking general help.

"We are very pleased to support this scheme and will do all we can to assist partners in trade and tourism and act as ambassadors for our area."

Peter Myers, West Yorkshire chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: "Officers play an important role in helping residents and tourists with local knowledge."
