Bradford: Council seeks new accommodation after care home closure
- Published
A council has said it is working with partners to find accommodation for residents after the closure of their care home in West Yorkshire.
Bradford Council said Handsale Ltd had stopped operating services at Bierley Court Residential Care Home.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspected the home in June, external, when it was rated as "requires improvement".
Hansdale said it was working with the council and CQC to ensure the transfer of residents to other locations.
The council did not confirm how many residents needed to find a new home, but 28 people lived there when the CQC inspected it last year.
A spokesperson for the authority said it was "a very distressing and worrying time" for residents, their families and carers.
They added the council and NHS partners would "be working closely with all residents to support them in finding alternative care home accommodation as quickly and safely as possible with minimum disruption".
The authority did not confirm how many jobs would be lost with the home's closure.
A spokesman for Handsale Ltd said: "Due to the current economic climate, including the impact of exorbitant energy prices and high interest rates, we have had to take the extremely difficult decision to begin the closure of Bierley Court Care Home.
"This decision was not taken lightly, however the adult social care industry has unfortunately felt these economic changes more acutely after years and years of government underfunding in the sector.
"We are working closely with our partners at Bradford Council and the Care Quality Commission to ensure the safe transfer of the residents to other care settings in the local area."
