Bradford: Little Horton link road opens to improve congestion

The work is part of a package of road improvements

A new link road has opened in the Little Horton area of Bradford.

The new route, which links All Saints Road with Horton Park Avenue, would ease congestion and improve road safety, Bradford Council said.

The authority said previously the junctions with Great Horton Road were a "pinch point" for road users, which created significant traffic problems.

The improvement scheme was designed to improve journey times and create a better walking environment.

The new section of road extends Dirkhill Road, and links All Saints Road with Horton Park Avenue near Copthorne Primary School.

The council said there was now no right or left turn from Great Horton Road into All Saints Road, as motorists should use the link road and new roundabout on Horton Park Avenue.

The completed works were part of the final phase of improvements in the area and the scheme is scheduled to finish in late March 2024.

'Increase safety'

Further improvements include new bus shelters and lay-bys, improved pedestrian crossings, landscaping upgrades with tree plantings and changes to the existing Horton Park Avenue car park to improve flood resilience.

Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council's executive member for regeneration, planning and transport, said the All Saints Road and Horton Park junctions had long been "pinch points".

"These works aim to ease this congestion and increase safety for pedestrians along with improving the environment for local residents," he said.

The work was funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority through a capital grant provided by the Department for Transport.
