Living Well Bradford is encouraging residents to grow their own food

Bradford residents are being offered free seed-growing kits to encourage them to grow their own food at home.

The project from Living Well Bradford aims to encourage families to grow food together and try new vegetables.

The seeds are for plants including salad leaves, spinach, radishes, runner beans and rainbow chard.

The Living Well initiative is led by Bradford Council, working alongside the NHS and Craven Health and Care Partnership.

Anyone interested can fill in a form online and collect their seeds, pots and compost.

The council's Grow Well to Eat Well initiative follows the success of its previous healthy eating campaign, Swap Well to Eat Well, which showed people how to cook a meal instead of ordering their usual takeaway.

Councillor Sue Duffy, Portfolio Holder for Children and Families and Living Well, said: "Growing your own food together as a family can help young people in understanding where food comes from and watching your plants grow and then being able to eat the proceeds can give a real sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, as well as encouraging people to try new and healthy foods."
