A multimillion pound new development at Southmead Hospital in Bristol has fully opened.

The new buildings, which cost £45m, will be used by pathologists and scientists and include purpose-built laboratories for research into diabetes, cancer and lung disease.

The facilities will form part of the city's £430m new hospital when it opens in 2014.

An NHS spokesman said they were the first major new buildings at the site.
