A woman who helps toads safely cross the road to their breeding ground has been presented with an award at the House of Lords.

Helen Hobbs received an Animal Rescue Award from the International Fund for Animal Welfare.

Ms Hobbs has run the Charlcombe Lane Toad Patrol in Bath for the past 12 years.

It has helped an estimated 4,500 toads, frogs and newts avoid vehicle wheels.

The patrol operates every night for up to six weeks during the spring, when the toads make their way from hills to the north of the city to the lakes in the valley below.

Bath and North East Somerset Council closes the road each night during the migration.
