The 70th anniversary of the bombing of the Parnall Aircraft factory in Yate, South Gloucestershire, in World War II has been commemorated.

Luftwaffe bombing raids happened on 27 February 1941 and for eight days later. Fifty-four people were killed.

Sunday's event involved a remembrance service and a heritage day, focusing on the bombings.

Sheila Jabs was nine at the time and remembers her uncle arriving at the family house following a raid.

She said: "It was about 11 o'clock at night and he'd come round to see that we were all right.

"I remember he was standing in the doorway of our room completely grey with all the dust, his hair matted and every button of his jacket blown off."
