Weston-Super-Mare to get new modern street lights

A £220,000 scheme to update street lighting in Weston-super-Mare is due to begin next month.
More than 140 old concrete columns and some wall-mounted lights are to be replaced with recyclable aluminium units with energy efficient lanterns.
The new lights will have technology for remote monitoring, dimming and part-night switching.
North Somerset council said it would help cut down light pollution, energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Deputy council leader Elfan Ap Rees said the concrete columns were reaching the end of their useful lives.
"Many of the concrete ones to be replaced are suffering from concrete cancer and are becoming dangerous," he said.
Work will be carried in Uphill Road (north), Bridgwater Road, Clevedon Road, Brighton Road, Ashcombe Road, Knightstone Road, South Parade, Walliscote Road, Baker Street, Alfred Street, Orchard Street and Oxford Street.
