James Bubear: Bath MP makes appeal for information

An MP has appealed for information about the disappearance of Bath university student James Bubear.

Don Foster, Liberal Democrat, has asked anyone who might have any information into Mr Bubear's whereabouts to come forward.

Mr Bubear, 19, was last seen leaving a fancy dress party at the Revolution bar in George Street, Bath, on 13 March.

CCTV captured the Bath Spa University student walking along James Street West, outside the Odeon cinema.

On Monday, police revealed that a woman who was seen talking to him outside the cinema had come forward.

'Concerned for welfare'

After the young woman left, Mr Bubear had sat down in a doorway nearby.

"She spoke to James," said Det Insp Charlotte Tucker, from Avon and Somerset Police. "He had had quite a lot to drink during the evening and she was concerned for his welfare.

"It would be fair to say he may have made himself more vulnerable because of the amount of alcohol he'd had.

"We are just desperately worried and at a loss. It's completely out of character for James.

"For the sake of his friends and his very worried family, we are desperate for someone to come forward and fill in the next piece of the jigsaw."

His mobile phone and passport were found in the doorway by a street cleaner on Sunday morning.

Police have searched the River Avon and routes Mr Bubear might have walked on the way to his student flat on the Lower Bristol Road, but no trace of him has yet been found.

At the weekend members of his family and friends joined in a march to highlight his disappearance.

The march on Saturday took place along the likely route he took home, starting at Revolution bar.

Mr Bubear had been at a masked ball and was wearing 70s-style retro clothes.
