Bath Dogs and Cats Home launches £100,000 appeal

Former stray Bluebell has been found a home with a family in Bath

Bath Cats and Dogs Home is marking the re-homing of its 100,000th animal by launching an appeal to raise £100,000.

The home, established in 1937, is a temporary refuge for 160 dogs, 140 cats and numerous rabbits, chickens, ferrets, guinea pigs and rats.

Running the shelter, veterinary and re-homing services costs £1.2m a year, which is raised by the centre itself.

Former Bath and international rugby star Matt Perry will officially launch the appeal on Wednesday.

"As a struggling independent charity Bath Cats and Dogs Home needs to secure crucial funding to enable it to continue to carry on its life-saving work over the next 70 years," said Mr Perry.

The 100,000th animal to be found a new home was Bluebell, a stray lurcher from Birmingham.

She is being adopted by the Phillips family from Bath.
