Forest of Dean Council admits voting card error

Forest of Dean District Council has admitted sending incorrect voting instructions to 2,200 voters.

Postal ballot papers sent out to four wards tell people they can vote for more than three candidates.

A spokeswoman from the Conservative-led authority said the forms should have instructed people to vote for no more than three candidates.

The council will send new ballot papers and write to the people who were sent the wrong information, she said.

Marie Rosenthal, the authority's returning officer said: "It has come to our attention that the postal vote ballot papers issued on Monday 18 April for four wards - Lydbrook and Ruardean, Mitcheldean and Drybrook, Coleford East and Newent Central - are incorrect.

"New ballot papers for the district elections will be sent out on Wednesday to the postal voters in these wards and will be with them before the weekend.

"We will also be writing today to everyone affected about this."

Ms Rosenthal said postal voting for the alternative voting referendum was not affected.
