Work to begin on Weston-super-Mare primary school

Work on a new £1.5m building to house reception-aged children at a school in Weston-super-Mare is to begin in May.

St Martins in Worle is currently a junior school but will provide 60 new reception places from September.

Sheila Smith, from North Somerset Council, said the move would plug a gap in school places in the town.

"We have seen a 10% increase in reception place applications this year in Weston-super-Mare, with a marked increase in the Worle area."

She added the new places, which subject to approval would create an all-through school for ages four to 11, would address the lack of school spaces.
